Moodle Training for FoA
by Platform Administrator - Tuesday, 7 April 2009, 10:03 AM

A Moodle training session for the academics of the Faculty of Agriculture was organised by the VCILT. The training was scheduled over 3 sessions whereby the academics were initiated to the Moodle e-learning platform. They were given an insight of the platform and how the latter can enhance they way they run their modules in terms of better management/tracking of students, sharing of lecture materials and increase student participation.

Some of the activities carried out during the training session were:
1) Registering on the Moodle platform
2) Enrol on a particular course, using an enrolment key
3) Creating a sample course and uploading files
4) Creating an online submission box and a discussion forum
5) Using an online calendar and set reminders

A few comments by the academics:
  • The platform will enhance our teaching effectivness by increasing interaction with the learners. Allows real-time interactions.
  • I will defintely use the platform as soon as possible as it will give me more time for interaction with students as they will not be always busy taking notes.
  • The platform is very useful for interactive discussion with students, but they also need to have the appropriate training to be able to use the paltform effectively.
  • Yeah, it can complement lectures and is therefore useful.
